The Netherlands made significant progress in solar energy deployment, installing around 1.76 GW of PV capacity across 148,166 projects in the first half of 2024, according to official data from CBS, the country’s statistics agency. While the pace of solar capacity installation in the first half of 2024 is slightly slower than the record-breaking 4.82 GW added in 2023, the country’s continued growth in renewable energy remains strong. The Netherlands has consistently increased its solar capacity over the past few years, with 4.8 GW added in 2022, 3.7 GW in 2021, and 3.9 GW in 2020. By mid-2024, the country’s cumulative solar capacity had reached an impressive 26.06 GW, a clear indication of its growing commitment to clean energy. Looking to the future, DNE Research forecasts that the Netherlands could reach 59 GW by 2030 and 98 GW by 2035, with total solar capacity potentially soaring to between 100 GW and 180 GW by 2050. Furthermore, Netbeheer Nederland, the Dutch association of electricity and gas network operators, predicts that the country’s total solar capacity could range from 100 GW to 180 GW by 2050, reflecting a long-term vision for a more sustainable energy future. |
