Spain Announces 820 MW of Energy Storage Projects for Q4 2024

January 15, 2025

In the fourth quarter of 2024, Spain has announced plans for over 820 MW of energy storage projects, with more than 182 MW focused on integrating battery energy storage systems (BESS) with existing solar and wind power plants. These initiatives were highlighted in Spain’s Official State Gazette (BOE).

PV Magazine España outlines some of the key energy storage projects featured in the BOE for this period.

Among the approved projects, Iberdrola has received prior administrative authorization for the construction of a 27.46 MW BESS module at the FV Revilla-Vallejera Hybrid site. This system will be integrated with the 44.199 MW FV Revilla-Vallejera photovoltaic plant located in Vallejera, Burgos, along with the necessary electricity evacuation infrastructure.

Additionally, Iberdrola has applied for prior authorization and construction approval for two more energy storage projects: a 27.46 MW BESS at the FV Olmedilla solar park, which has a capacity of 42 MW, and another 27.46 MW BESS at the FV Romeral solar park, also with a 42 MW capacity. Both projects are located in the province of Cuenca and include associated evacuation infrastructure.
